Plants

Sabal palmetto
Cabbage Palm
AGAVACEAE

Cabbage PalmAlso known as the blue palmetto, this is one of the largest palms in the Southeast. It is found to northern South America.

It has deeply divided fan-shaped leaves. It can grow to 90 feet. It is considered one of the hardiest native palms. It never grows far from the coast. It is most tolerant of hurricane floods and salts.

The flowers are cream and fragrant and will be longer than the leaves.

Unfortunately it is susceptible to tar spot, butt rot, false smut, manganese deficiency and some fungal leaf spot.
